What's the difference? And what are they good for anyway?

Metal:

-Typically used on jeans. Come in nickel, brass, and aluminum.

-Come in both open and closed bottom.

-Common Lengths- 3-36 inches. Other sizes available. Teeth size- 3-14MM

-Zipper jam? Use a graphite pencil and run the tip along the teeth of the zipper. It will soften the zipper and allow it to run smoothly.

-Need to shorten? You'll need: a pair of needle nose pliers.

1) Remove the stoppers

2) Remove the metal teeth to desired length

3) Replace top stoppers

4) Cut extra tape

-Be careful not to sew over metal zippers!

-Used on most projects. Lightweight, yet durable.

-Come in both open and closed bottom

-Common Lengths- 6-22 Inches. Other sizes available. Teeth size- 3-5MM

-Need to shorten from the bottom? You'll need: top or bottom stoppers, needle nose pliers

1) Unfold previous stopper, remove

2) Add new stopper to desired length location

3) Push through zipper, fold in ends

4) Cut extra tape

-These zippers can also be cut by sewing over the zipper!

-Usually used on sportswear and sportbags.

-Common lengths- 5-28 Inches. Other sizes available. Teeth size- 3-5MM

-Need to shorten? You'll need: a pair of needle nose pliers.

-Usually used on skirts or dresses. Once sewn on, the zipper does not show

-Come in closed bottom only.

-Need to shorten the bottom? You'll need to: sew over the zipper at desired length.
